UTAH: Moab - Slick Rock Trail
I was a little bit scared to do this but I also had heard great things and knew Aaron would love it so I was excited to go down for the weekend.
We drove down on an early Saturday morning and go to the trail around 12. I had packed our lunches so we ate and then get the bikes ready and hit the trail.
Getting on the trail is legit scary. I don’t know why they haven’t evened out that first rock spot so don’t let that scare you because I seriously wanted to quit when I couldn’t make it up that first hill. But Aaron encouraged me to keep going so I did (marry someone who challenges you :) ).
The trail is AMAZING! It is seriously so pretty. We had so much fun doing it together.
I feel like we should give it an honest review for someone who doesn’t bike much because what I read online beforehand was not helpful at all. So from my perspective. I have done like three 10-15 mile bike rides in my whole life and had done two spin classes before this so I am a beginner. But I consider myself fairly athletic and am pretty determined so I figured I would be able to push myself to do the trail just fine. For me, it wasn’t the pushing myself that was hard, it was just really hard technically for me. It would have been a completely different ball game if it was just a road going up and down, I can handle that. But this was steep climbs up slick rock and steep downs slick rock which required you to have some skills in maneuvering a bike, which unfortunately I do not have. But honestly, I just got off my bike and walked it if it got too steep or too scary and I survived just fine. So I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone! It was so amazing!
Side note, especially if you are a beginner, I would go in the off season. We went in January and there were hardly anyone else on the trail. I cannot imagine trying to navigate that with a crowd. It was about 50 degrees which was perfect! We got warm but not too warm.
Go, go, go! You will not regret it!
Also, if you are ever in Moab go to La Chorro Loco, we need to have this down so we never forget it. Their sauces are amazing.
Arches is in the background! We could see a few Arches along the trail.
I wore Aarons bib shorts to help my booty not get sore so that is why it looks like I am wearing overalls haha. Biking problems.
