ARIZONA: Havasupai - Day 1
I don’t even know where to begin with this amazing hike. It was seriously 10000000000 times better than I thought it would be and I had pretty high expectations.
We got there around 4pm expecting to be able to hike down. Aaron had done this on all his previous times hiking there so we thought we were good to go. Well Aaron hasn’t been there in 10 years and apparently it is not allowed now. You could probably still do it if you wanted to but we talked to one of the locals about it and he told us no so then we felt like we couldn’t haha. So we ended up eating out Little Caesars over the canyon and sleeping in our car again.
We woke up about 5 and got packed up and going around 5:30. It was nice to start while it was cool outside and honestly on the way down the trail didn't seem too bad at all. It is hard to have a heavy pack on but going in is for sure the easy part. We made it down right when the office opened up and were the second people there that morning. After checking in, we trecked down to camp. Those last two miles are brutal. I don't know if it is because you feel so close or the sand or what. But those were for sure the hardest for me.
Making it to your first view of Havasu falls is incredible! It is such a great reward for the trip. We kept going from there and set up our camp.
We spent the rest of the day going to Havasu falls, Mooney Falls, and then back up to Fifty Foot falls and Little Navajo Falls. We jumped in the water at all the points, even though it is a bit chilly. I will never forget Aaron and I swimming alone under Fifty foot falls, it was seriously amazing.
That night we made our Jet Boil meal and ate and then there was a camp next to us that had leftover food so they brought us some incredible pork, shrimp, quinoa, and rice. It was awesome. And we ate a whole bag of gummy worms so that was also awesome.
