COVID19 Trip
Aaron was out of school for several months due to Corona so we decided to drive to visit family since my work can be done from home. It was a little crazy but we are glad we did it!
We started our 32 hour drive on Friday after I got off work and got to Provo, Utah on Sunday morning. We slept in our car in some random Kentucky town for a few hours, walked around the St. Louis arch, slept in the Colorado canyon and then made it to Utah!
Our Trip was:
Drive from Richmond to Provo Utah
- Utah for about 10 days. We went climbing, bike riding, hiking and camping.
- California for a few days of family time!
- Phoenix, Arizona for a few days for Aaron to visit a residency and meet up with some friends
- Sedona/Flagstaff, Arizona for hiking and adventures
- Colorado Springs, Colorado for hiking and exploring
- Kansas City, Kansas for Aaron to meet with a dentist
Then we drove from Kansas City to Richmond (overnight - it was intense)
It was an incredible trip and with the uncertainty of Aaron's schooling with Corona and the future of his breaks it felt good to maximize the time he did have off. We were super lucky to be able to visit so much family and see so many fun and pretty things!
The start of the drive - let the fun begin!
Aaron's sneaky shots. Note the bread - we were making BB and Js in the car the whole trip.
Stop at the St. Louis Arch for a walk!
Stopping for some dinner and a nice Kansas view :)
Weird time traveling during Corona - always trying to figure out the rules for masks, etc. That instacart mask has done us well.
Then we made it to UTAH! Shellyne is the best and gave us both nail makeovers. And me a hair makeover!
Aaron thinks he needs..
We got lucky that Kayla, Everett and Sloan were visiting while we were there so we got to spend some time with them!
Bonding with Millie.
Aaron's first taste of Crumbl Cookies!
Hiking the Provo Y with Millie, Wallace and Addy, Cody, Tuna, Chuck. We were a spectacle with 4 dogs everywhere we went.
The boys did some motorcycle cruises.
Aaron and I did one ride together which was really fun!
But I wasn't in the best mood :/
Aaron and Cody went on several rides together up and around Payson.
We went on several family hikes which was super fun!
Jed and the boys went climbing up Provo Canyon.
We also did some climbing as a family!
We had a ton of fun and are lucky Jed & Shellyne have all the gear and skills.
We were also so lucky to have Adam, Diedre, Nixon and Hayes in town at the same time (for Hayes' blessing). we randomly saw our nephew Dallin at the grocery store!
Baby Blessing day for Hayes.
We had fun going up to one of Diedres siblings houses for the blessing, BBQ and fun!
We showed Nixon around Shellyne and Jeds fun backyard with Bunnies, chickens and dogs!
And we got shaved ice with Adam, Diedre, Nixon and Hayes!
We went down to Goblin Valley to go camping and climbing with the fam. It was so fun!
We did some hikes to some slot canyons.
And did some repeling! It was incredible!
Goblin Valley is so unique!
We did a second repel at Goblin's Liar. It was really fun!
Out camping spot - so pretty!
Shellyne is a champ and did repeling with Wallace. So cute!
Then we went to California - it was really rough for Aaron :)
Really rough :) We were lucky to spend a lot of time with family!
Aaron got to go on a bike ride with Skyler and Chase.
The cutest.
He taught the grandkids how to dance.
And Don showed him how to play golf :)
Don with the boys (Minus Stephen and Adam).
I got lucky and Aaron served me a gourmet lunch everyday.
Then we went to AZ and visited our Friend Jordan Tesamile and his two kiddos. We also visited our friend Taft and his fiance but we didn't take a pic.
Phoenix was hot and there was a curfew due to the riots happening so you couldn't be out at night when it cools down a bit. We tried a hike one day when it was 113 outside so we didn't make it too far but still a nice view :)
We had the best Airbnb ever - with a nice backyard pool!
Then we drove up to Sedona, AZ to do some hiking! It was so stunning!
We did two hikes in Sedona and loved it! Then we went up to Flagstaff and stayed the night there.
The next day we drove to Colorado Springs. We stopped at Mesa Verde along the way. It was really incredible (and rainy)!
Mesa Verde took a bit of time but it was worth it!
We also hit a CRAZY dust storm while going through the reservation. Our car/bikes were covered in tumbleweeds. It was scary but we survived! Four corners was just before this and we tried to stop but it was closed so we just drove by the four corners area, which I think counts :)
Then we made it to Colorado Springs! It was incredible! We went to Garden of the Gods and hike around in the rain.
We did another hike and explored some houses/dental offices, saw downtown, went to the Olympic training center, the Air Force Academy, Manitou Springs, etc. it was a fun/busy day! We tried to go out to eat at a recommended mexican place but it ended up being an hour wait so we went to Del Taco :)
Then we went to a park with an amazing view of the mountains. It was super windy so we went to play frisbee to see how far we could get it to go. It was so pretty!
In Kansas City we ate Chipotle with a nice view of the city!
And Aaron relaxing after shadowing a dentist/before we started our trip.
We left when I finished work around 3pm and drove the 16 hours home. It was long but we were ready to be done driving so we kept going to not split up into two days.
We had the best trip! We are so lucky to have the best family, friends, car, etc. Grateful for a husband that can handle being with me for 24/7 for three months of corona quarentine. Now back to school for Aaron :)
